Benefits of Shock Wave Therapy
Effective Pain Relief: Shock Wave Therapy has been shown to effectively alleviate pain associated with conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, calcification tendinitis, Morton’s neuroma and chronic musculoskeletal pain.
Improved Mobility: By promoting tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation, Shock Wave Therapy can help improve range of motion and mobility in affected joints.
Accelerated Healing: The stimulation of the body's natural healing process means faster recovery times and quicker return to activity.
Non-Invasive: Unlike surgical procedures, Shock Wave Therapy is non-invasive and doesn’t require lengthy recovery times.
What to expect
After undergoing shock wave therapy, patients may experience a variety of sensations and changes in their symptoms, depending on their specific condition, treatment protocol, and individual response. The therapist can tailor the intensity of shock wave specifically to each patient taking into their condition.
Patients may initially feel sensations like tingling or warmth. Some may experience temporary discomfort or soreness, which typically subsides within days. Over time (4-6 treatments), patients often notice improved mobility, reduced pain, and increased energy levels. Gradual pain reduction occurs as healing progresses, leading to overall symptom improvement. As part of the shock wave treatment you will be given specific exercises by your therapist. It's essential to follow post-treatment instructions and communicate any concerns with healthcare providers.
During an initial consultation the therapist will take a full case history and examination will take place. A bespoke treatment plan will be discussed and treatment would involve shock wave treatment which may last for up to 15 minutes, specific exercises which will be re-assessed and developed at each appointment, kinesiology taping may also be used in conjunction with shock wave therapy. Manual treatment, such as mobilisation or soft tissue may be included as part of the treatment but his depends on the condition.
